What is
my IP.

The public one is what the rest of the internet sees. The private one is what each device inside your network (your phone, your computer) uses to talk to the router, and it never leaves the house.

The router acts as the go-between: it gathers the traffic from all your devices and sends it out with a single public IP. That is why the number you see here is not the same one your computer's network settings show.

They both do the same job, identify your connection, but in different formats. IPv4 is four numbers separated by dots (something like 85.62.14.201). IPv6 is longer and written with colons (something like 2a02:8071::1a2b).

IPv6 exists because IPv4 addresses are running out. Many home connections already have both at once, and this page tells you which one you are using right now.

Because they are different addresses and both are correct. Your computer knows its private IP, the one it uses inside your network. This page shows your public IP, the one your router assigns when it reaches the internet (what networking calls NAT).

If you want to see your device's private IP, you have to check it in that device's own network settings, not here.

It depends on your contract. Most home lines have a dynamic IP: it changes now and then, usually when you restart the router. A fixed IP stays the same, and it does not come by default: you contract it separately with your carrier.

To know which one you have, the most reliable way is to ask your carrier, because from here there is no way to tell a fixed IP apart from a dynamic one that just has not changed yet.

Because with a dynamic IP, your carrier assigns it from a pool that keeps rotating. Restarting the router, or after some time, you can get a different one. It is normal and does not mean anything is misconfigured.

You contract it with your internet carrier, not here or with any other provider. It usually comes with a monthly cost on top, and some carriers include it in certain plans. If what you need is a fixed address for your server or your website, we already take care of that: the VPS and servers we manage come with a fixed IP by default.

Only roughly. An IP usually tells your carrier and your city or region, sometimes the neighbourhood if the geolocation is good. It does not point to your street or your house.

That rough estimate is what many websites use to, say, show you prices in your currency or your country's language. It is not a threat by itself, though it should not be mistaken for full anonymity either.

Day to day, no. Any website you visit already sees it, it is part of how the internet works. What is worth taking care of is the usual: strong, different passwords per service, and your devices' software kept up to date. Your IP alone does not give anyone access to your accounts or your files.

It is used to tell a system "let in only from here". That is what a firewall does when it asks for your IP to authorise access to a panel, a database or a server: only that specific address can get in, and the rest of the internet stays out.

It is also what technical support needs when they ask for your IP to unblock you or give you access to something.

It is almost always another device getting it wrong, not you. A phone with the old password saved, or a mail app that keeps retrying on its own every few minutes, generate failed attempts from your same IP without you noticing. After a handful, the server blocks you the way it would block any attack.

Check first whether you have the old password saved on your phone, your tablet or any mail program.

It can be a firewall block, not a password failure: the server cuts off access to your IP before checking anything, so you see a generic error even if you type it correctly. Check your IP here and unblock it from your client area.

If you are outside Spain, it could be a country block, which the client area's unblock tool cannot see or remove: that tool only covers the firewall and the cPanel blocks from failed attempts. Open a ticket with your IP (the one you see on this page) and we will look into it.

Update the password on every device at the same time when you change it: your phone, your computer's mail, any app or site that has it saved. It is the most common reason a site keeps blocking you over and over.

If your IP changes (a dynamic connection), check it again before writing the ticket: it may have changed since last time.
